Frequently Asked Questions
How do I take care of my outdoor countertop differently than I do for my indoor countertop?
We would highly recommend you to shelter your countertop with a patio roof or give it enough shade using umbrellas. This avoids the stone from getting discolored due to the harmful sun rays. To keep your countertops clean, use mild soap water or any of the dedicated stone cleaning products.
Will bird/animal droppings or waste stain my countertop? How do I keep my countertops clean from animal waste?
Ensure to tidy up your granite countertop on a regular basis. The best way to clean is to remove the residue first and then clean it with soap and water. Clean your kitchen surface using cleansers that do not contain bleach or harsh abrasives.
Do extreme weather conditions affect the granite countertops?
With proper installation and maintenance, the granite countertops remain unaffected by normal weather conditions.
Can wet leaves cause stain on my countertop?
Do not let wet leaves accumulate on your granite countertops for longer periods. We recommend you to cover the countertops if you’re not using them due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Will the wax of candles affect my countertop?
Generally, candle wax marks will leave a residue in the pores of the stone that will eventually dissipate. However, the usage of plates or candle trays is recommended.
Does citronella oil stain my countertop?
If not cleaned properly, citronella oil can stain your granite. If left unattended, the oil can penetrate through the sealer’s protection. We suggest you to use some type of plate or tray to store the citronella oil containers.
Some garden tools were left on my countertop and now there is a rust stain; how can I remove it?
You can tidy up the rust stain area on your countertop by using baking soda and water. Use a brush and agitate the rust-affected area. If the rust is more stubborn, then you may need to use a rust remover, such as Iron Out, which is commercially available and acceptable for use on granite (it cannot be used on marble or limestone).
What is the best way to clean my countertop after winter?
Use water to rinse off any loose particles and other foreign body, and then apply soap water to give a clean wash. If you feel additional cleaning is necessary, you can clean with any kitchen surface cleanser that does not contain bleach or harsh abrasives.
Should I use disinfectants to clean my outdoor countertop?
You need not disinfect your countertops. A quick soap water wash is sufficient as it involves antibacterial agents. Usage of a stone cleaning agent or a kitchen cleanser that does not contain bleach or harsh abrasives is recommended.
I wish to have an overhang for a bar top; do you recommend supports? My contractor is unsure if supports are necessary?
Installation remains the same when it comes to both outdoor and indoor granite countertops. Overhangs do not require support until and unless they are greater than 10″. We can advise you regarding the specific supports necessary for your application.
Would you recommend brick base foundation for stone installations?
The stone should be supported by a rigid foundation for prolonged use. Unstable foundations tend to affect your stone if your installation has seams. Smaller, individual pieces of the stone may not necessarily be affected by these circumstances.
Should my outdoor kitchen be installed on concrete or on stone pavers?
Outdoor kitchen can be installed on different types of flooring or foundations. However, we recommend you use poured footing when setting up an outdoor kitchen. Poured footing is not required for smaller pieces of stone. It can be used with bricks or pavers if they are available as individual pieces.
Would granite be a good material to use for my outdoor fire pit or fireplace?
Yes. Granite is an excellent choice for fire pit or fireplace as it is a non-combustible material. That being said, we don’t provide warranty.
Is sealing required every year?
Yes. Extreme weather conditions can affect sealer’s protection. Countertops need to be re-sealed as per requirements. An effective and good penetrating or impregnating sealer should be used to re-seal.
My countertop overheats due to sun; how can I avoid it?
Cool off your countertops/tabletops by treating them with tepid water. Do not use cold water as the stone needs to cool gradually. Usage of umbrellas or building a roof above the countertop also can help.
